Like many parents, I’m very particular about the type of car seats I buy for my kids. While I’ve never been in a car accident, I simply don’t want to have any regrets in case I ever am. I just can’t imagine putting my kids into a car seat that fails on them when they really need it!
And I have good reason to be concerned! Car seat failures happen far too often for comfort! A personal acquaintance of mine lost her baby because the car seat failed in a rollover accident. I never want to get in my car and wonder if the car seat will fail. Never!
Because I never want to worry about it while I’m driving, I’ve researched all kinds of car seats and their safety. I’ve learned that keeping a child in a 5-point harness for as long as possible is the safest thing to do, and only two car seat brands allow for this feature in their car seats. Those brands are Britax and Sunshine Kids.
I decided to buy the Sunshine Radian 80 car seats. I felt they would keep my girls nice and safe up until they are 80 pounds. Most car seats have weight limits of 40 pounds and then want you to move your kids into a booster. The Sunshine Radian keeps them safest in the 5 point harness for double the normal weight limits! They also have some other great features as well.
Steel frames - these frames won’t deteriorate in the hot sun like other car seat frames. Plastic is far too susceptible to damage by heat and sun.
Rear-facing and forward-facing - these car seats are convertible so they work for both infants and booster seat aged kids.
Stylish - you can’t beat the cute patterns they have for little girls’ seats.
LATCH - I love the fact that you can harness these seats directly to your car without depending on the car’s seat belt system. Seat belts unfortunately have been known to fail far too often.
Foldable - while the Sunshine Radian 80 car seats aren’t the lightest thing to pack around due to the internal steel frame, they do fold up and can be worn like a backpack if you need to carry it somewhere like for airline travel.
Narrow - you can actually fit three car seats in a row in the back of a minivan if you need to. That works real well for me now that I have added another baby to our family. All three kids sit together in car seats from ages 0 to 8 years old!
I’m so thankful that I have my kids sitting in the Sunshine Kids Radian 80 car seats. Not only are they cool and comfortable for the kids, they sure make my mind rest easier knowing they’re safe. In the case of an accident, I’ll be glad I spent $250 for them!
